Popular Crow Ned McHenry will showcase his “passion” for South Australia on a new lifestyle TV show kicking off this weekend.
McHenry will host Reel Talk, a new four-part series on Channel 7, in which he shares “epic adventures with great people, great stories and great places” along the South Australian coastline.
“I’m from Melbourne but I’ve absolutely fallen in love with SA,” said McHenry, who remains out of contract for next season.
“This is for the whole South Australian community, not necessarily just for those who are mad-keen on fishing. It’s about the stories, the characters, the people – they’re the heroes of the show.”
While he’s got his own fishing-focused radio show on FIVEaa and a ‘Catch of The Day’ segment on Seven, this is McHenry’s first solo TV presenting gig.
“I’ve learned a lot along the way and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.
Ryan Fitzgerald will show off his home suburb, Port Noarlunga, and top Adelaide chef Laura Sharrad will give tips on how to jazz up an oyster on the first episode, which airs at 5.30pm on Saturday.
But don’t expect to see any of McHenry’s Crows teammates on the series, which runs throughout September.
“The guys are great, they’re super supportive and I love them all … but they can’t fish and they’re all boring,” he joked.
For McHenry, football will “always come first” but he said working in the media, and particularly TV, is a career he is hoping to pursue going forward.
“This is an important passion point in my life and it’s something I love to do and want to learn more about,” he said.
“I’ve got a lot of ideas and concepts … which hopefully will evolve into certain things in the future.”
The 24-year-old Victorian has played 67 matches since joining the club in 2019. He’s yet to re-sign for next year but says he’s “really comfortable” with the situation.
“There’s a little bit to play out,” he said.
“I’ve had good communication with the club across the last weeks and months and they’re understanding about where I’m at and my position as well outside of footy with lots of different pursuits.”
