Seven weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy and husband Matt have welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Ted.
Arriving a little earlier than expected at 36 weeks, Ted weighed about 2.7kg when he was born at Burnside Hospital on Thursday.
“(So far) he’s such a relaxed baby, and I’m so happy he’s finally here,” said the popular media personality.
But Ted’s birth has been tinged with some sadness. Matt’s father, Peter, died just 24 hours later after a long illness.
“We’re taking comfort in the early arrival though, Matt’s dad had been unwell for some time and sadly passed away the following day, but not before finding out about his new Grandson” said Mulcahy.
The couple already have a four-year-old daughter, Grace Ida, and Mulcahy said she’s already very protective of her baby brother.
“Grace is taking her big sister – or should I say bodyguard – duties very seriously. She always sings to Ted when he cries, the poor little guy would know all the songs from Moana already and hasn’t seen a frame of the movie,” Mulcahy said.
A very special little ray of sunshine has been welcomed into the 7NEWS family. Congratulations to weather presenter @ameliamulcahy7, husband Matt and big sister Grace on the safe arrival of Ted Watts, weighing almost 6 pounds! See more in 7NEWS Adelaide at 6pm. #7NEWSpic.twitter.com/RHt5PLXeLW

Mulcahy gave birth to her first child, Grace Ida, in June 2019.
Grace was named after two very special women in Mulcahy and husband Matt’s life.
“Grace is Matt’s grandmother who is in her 90s and is such a firecracker,” she said.
“At our wedding, she was dancing all night.”
Ida is the name of Mulcahy’s grandmother who passed away in 2019.
“So it’s a special name for us,” she said.
