The modern new Morialta Secondary College will rise from the rubble of an ageing eastern-suburbs high school – and change zones for the Hills. See the designs here.

Final school zones to accommodate the new Morialta Secondary College show eastern suburbs schools will attract more students from the Adelaide Hills.

The zones were finalised at the same time as concept designs for Morialta were published, showing the new $84.4m school will boast a performing arts centre, gym, and cafe.

A football oval, soccer pitch and hard courts will cater for outdoor sport.

Zoning for the new school and affected neighbours will take effect from 2023.

The zone for Marryatville High School will grow, and Charles Campbell will lose some territory on its southern flank.

The biggest change from draft zoning published in August will be the renamed Norwood International High School expanding east in the Hills, including taking in the town of Ashton and surrounds.

Meanwhile, a former head of Banksia Park International High School, Roley Coulter, has been appointed principal of Morialta Secondary College.

Education Minister John Gardner said it was exciting to see the school beginning to take shape.

“Roley’s world-class vision for public education and his innovative approach to improving outcomes for secondary students will be pivotal in the school’s success,” Mr Gardner said.

“Creating a new school from scratch is a wonderful opportunity and I’m excited to see how Roley and his future leadership team support academic achievement and success for their students.”

Mr Coulter said he felt privileged to help found Morialta Secondary College. He said he would benefit from the experience of other principals of new schools in SA.

Morialta Secondary School will be built on the site now used as the middle years’ campus of Norwood Morialta High school. The existing buildings will be demolished.

Mr Gardner said the government was working with Campbelltown City Council.

“This site will be an incredible resource for the whole community to share,” he said.

Norwood Morialta is consolidating on its Parade campus in Magill with a $55m redevelopment that will bring its middle schoolers from Rostrevor to join the senior students and be renamed Norwood International High School.

Morialta Secondary is due to open in 2023 with an intake of 200 year 7s, with broader enrolments of another 200 a year annually from 2024, eventually accommodating 1200 students.
