A bite-sized version of Tasting Australia will go ahead this spring, with an even greater focus on South Australian food, wine and spirits.
A pared-down Tasting Australia Local featuring nearly 30 events will take place in October and November.
The original festival – which had been scheduled for March and April but was called off due to the coronavirus epidemic – was going to include international food identities such as Marco Pierre White.
“In the last six weeks or so, we have been looking at ways we can activate in the space if the event could not go ahead,” said event manager Megan Deer. “In the end we came up with Tasting Australia Local, which was really designed to help the recovery of the South Australian food and beverage industry, and encourage consumers to discover local.”
Events, including degustations and wine masterclasses, will be held across the CBD and regional South Australia.
Adelaide Ocean Safari’s Tony Coppins will take seafood and native produce enthusiasts on a two-hour cruise along the coastline from Glenelg for his Indigenous Flavours on the Sea event, which will feature “cultural insights from an Aboriginal guest speaker”.

“You’ll learn about their connection to land and sea and discover more about ingredients featured in your lunch platter,” Mr Coppins said.
Ms Deer said additional programming would be announced in coming months, curated by TA’s creative team including Simon Bryant and beverage director Nick Stock.
She said they would be encouraging travel from interstate. “We’re concentrating on local for now, but it would be a nice bonus if we’re able to expand,” she said.
