Want to throw a dinner party, but don’t know where to start? My Kitchen Rules winner and Adelaide caterer Bree May reveals how to feed a party of 10 for $100.

ANYONE can cater for a party of 10 for $100, says Adelaide food identity Bree May.

The original My Kitchen Rules winner, who now runs catering business Food According to Bree, says preparation is key to feeding a crowd on a budget.

“If you really wanted to, you could do $10 to $15 per head, for paella and some bruschetta as entree, depending on what you do for dessert,” Bree says.

“You could even put together a beautiful cheese platter and it doesn’t have to cost a million dollars.”

Hosting a dinner party shouldn’t be a daunting task, Bree says. She suggests sticking to “what you know”, and practising anything new on close family first.

The keen cook and mother of two will be sharing her knowledge and simple recipes at a hands-on cooking class on March 28, as part of Tasting Australia.

The L Plates series, hosted by The Advertiser, Sunday Mail and delicious.SA at TAFE Regency, brings together some of the state’s best cooks and chefs, including Karena Armstrong of The Salopian Inn and Duncan Welgemoed of Africola.

Bree will demonstrate how to make paella, along with easy canapes and something sweet to finish.

“People are scared of paella, but once you watch it being made you realise how easy it is,” she says.

“You can prep a lot of it ahead of time, and it’s really communal. Once you have the basic recipe down pat, you can add whatever you want – chicken, prawns, or any veg.”

At Bree’s class, Paella Party, participants will be able to make their own paella. L Plates classes are $85.
