Winemaker Jo Irvine has dogs on the brain.
Such is her love for greyhounds, she named her wine brand Levrier – meaning greyhound in French. Images of her four-legged friends grace her wine labels and she and her partner Peter sponsor the Greyhound Adoption Program.
On August 1, the pair (and their adopted fur babies Daphne and Georgie) are launching a dog-friendly wine tasting experience at their Barossa winery.
While dog owners taste wine, their pooches can play in a fully enclosed dog park decked out with a sandpit, hay bales and toys. There’s plenty of water for fur balls and edible dog treats are available too.
“I love my dogs and take them on holidays with me,” Ms Irvine said. “Owners can now bring their dogs and not have to leave them at their accommodation when they visit Levrier. Their dogs can play in the safety of the dog park, within their sight.”
Levrier by Jo Irvine does not have a public cellar door, so tastings are by appointment only. Bookings can be made via the website, levrierwines.com.au, for Thursday-Saturdays.
Due to recent COVID-19 restrictions, by-appointment tastings, wine flights, and experiences are becoming increasingly popular across South Australia. Many wine brands are using the opportunity to value-add to their offerings.
“This will be a permanent experience,” Ms Irvine said. “In the future we are developing three specialised tasting flights, lasting at least two hours each with the intention of educating people about aromas, flavours and food matching with our particular wine varieties.”
