Tasting Australia 2020 will be held on October 9-18.
South Australia’s premier food and wine festival had been scheduled to kick off with a preview party next Thursday, March 26, however organisers last week announced they would postpone the event in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Food legend Marco Pierre White has been reconfirmed to headline the 10-day festival, along with ambassadors Matt Moran and Darren Robertson.
The revised dates puts the celebration in line with spring – which was when the first six Tasting Australia festivals were held. Festival director Simon Bryant said it would “add exciting new experiences to Tasting Australia”.
“The abundance of produce we will have at our fingertips is exciting for me and all the chefs involved,” he said.
Events SA executive director Hitaf Rasheed said she hoped the announcement of the revised dates would give confidence to the food and drinks industry, which is currently struggling through the coronavirus epidemic.
“The world is enduring an unprecedented set of circumstances right now,” she said. “There’s never been a more important time to support each other.
“We hope Tasting Australia will be able to provide that support to our events sector, our regions, our local, national and international chefs and producers, and our culinary tourism businesses.”
Local talent and ambassadors Maggie Beer, Cheong Liew, Paul Baker, Adam Liston, Emma McCaskill, Duncan Welgemoed and Karena Armstrong will all still be involved. However, some international talent are yet to confirm.
Current ticket holders have the option of transferring their ticket over to the new dates, or requesting a refund.
In the meantime, organisers would continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, Ms Rasheed said.
“If for some reason the event did not run, refunds would be provided to ticketholders,” she said.
