Premier Steven Marshall launches $88m JobTrainer program to get school leavers and unemployed skills to join growing industries
School leavers and people who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 crisis will get an $88 million skills boost to move into growing industries, under a new JobTrainer program launched in SA.

Aspiring workers in high demand industries, including health and technology, will have their skills training supercharged under a new $88 million State Government scheme.
Premier Steven Marshall announced the JobTrainer package, which will be targeted at school leavers and people who have lost their job during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Government says it will work with industries that are growing to deliver trained workers.
Mr Marshall said it was essential that locals were able get those opportunities.
“We need to drive new pathways and employment into new and emerging sectors, such as cyber security, ICT, defence industries and the creative industries, which are key to the state’s future economic growth,” he said.
“We are driving a skills-led economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and our additional training investment under JobTrainer will prioritise skills in industries where there is high demand for skilled workers to drive employment.
Innovation and Skills Minister David Pisoni said training delivery would be a mix of short courses and qualifications with “tailored delivery” aligned to sector needs.
He said this would support entry and re-entry into the workforce, including through traineeships and apprenticeships.
“Engaging the vocational education and training sector and supporting school leavers, young people and job seekers into training and employment will lead to sustainable careers in priority sectors for SA,” Minister Pisoni said.
“Skills and workforce development are critical to SA’s economic rebuild, recovery and transition, and proficiency in skills drives individual prosperity, economic productivity and growth, and helps create more jobs.”
The program aims to create 15,000 training places and is jointly funded by the Federal Government.
