Police step up investigation into Covid-19 infectious teenager who partied in Adelaide CBD

Police have appealed for information on a teenager who partied at a nightclub after testing positive for Covid – and the trail of mayhem continues.

The police investigation into a Covid-19 infectious teenager who partied at a CBD nightclub instead of isolating at home has intensified as new cases emerge.

Detectives have appealed for partygoers who saw the 19-year-old former private school student, from one of South Australia’s wealthiest families, at the Loverboy nightclub on Friday night.

SA Health refused to say how many cases are linked to the Hindley St exposure site, but sources say that many people are now infectious.

Contact tracers have forced 150 patrons and staff into quarantine, many of whom will be isolating on Christmas Day.

The risk period is between 10.45pm on Friday and 4.15am on Saturday.

“Police would like anyone who was at the club on that Friday night, or any witnesses, to come forward to assist police with their investigation by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” a police spokeswoman said of the ongoing investigation.

SA Health messaged the sick teen, who is not being named, at 10.18pm on Friday about his positive result, warning him he was “required by law to isolate immediately”.

But witnesses claim the teenager - who was educated at two of Adelaide elite colleges - kissed at least two women, shared cigarettes with friends and hugged patrons.

The eastern suburbs man, who shared a picture of his positive test result with friends amid claims he “bragged” about it at the club, later left with a female.

It’s understood that other girls he kissed have so far recorded negative tests.

“Everyone is quite annoyed we’re missing work, events and Christmas with our friends and family,” one clubber said.

“For some people it’s their last Christmas with their grandparents, which they are instead locked inside for.

“It is super inconvenient having to isolate at the busiest time of year because of the reckless decisions of one boy.”

The teenager, who is recovering in the Tom’s Court medi-hotel for a fortnight, has apologised to friends for being an “idiot” and “f--khead”.

It’s also believed he went out for breakfast on Saturday but claimed he was outside and not close to anyone else.

The man has refused to comment as his family went to ground.

His lawyer said: “We understand it’s caused a lot of grief.

“We won’t be saying anything until the (police) position is known.”

No charges have been laid against the teenager.
