Loverboy Covid teenager’s Adelaide night of madness allegedly included kissing women

Witnesses say a young clubber who partied despite a positive Covid test kissed at least two women – with one woman telling friends he didn’t let her know he had the virus.

South Australia records 105 new COVID-19 cases

The teenager who continued to party despite being told he was Covid-19 positive was intimate with women, shared cigarettes with revellers and hugged other patrons at a popular Adelaide nightclub, witnesses say.

As detectives continued to investigate, Premier Steven Marshall condemned the 19-year-old former private school boy, who is a member of one of the state’s wealthiest families.

SA Health messaged the sick teen, who The Advertiser has chosen not to name, at 10.18pm on Friday about his positive result, warning him he was “required by law to isolate immediately”.

The teen has told friends he didn’t see the message until the next morning and was sorry for what occurred.

The Advertiser has chosen not to identify the teenager.

Witnesses claim the teenager – who was educated at two of Adelaide’s elite schools – partied at the popular Hindley St nightclub Loverboy for several hours.

Witnesses last night revealed new details of his behaviour at the West End nightspot, which they say included kissing at least two women, sharing cigarettes with friends and hugging patrons.

The eastern suburbs-based teen, who is recovering in the Tom’s Court medi-hotel for the next fortnight, was later seen leaving in the early hours of Saturday with another female.

Chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said she was “concerned” about the case but said he had not “activated” his Adelaide Oval ticket to the Ashes Test match.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said on Tuesday investigators were continuing to examine the case.

“If you receive any advice, whether it be a telephone call or text message... then you should follow the health advice,” Mr Stevens said.

He said not doing that was “not just about putting the health of others at risk”, but also affected businesses and the wider community.

One of the women has detailed her trauma on social media and told friends the teen failed to inform her of his positive result. She returned a negative test and communicated with police, but refused to comment.

The teenager, who initially joked on social media, was unavailable for comment while his mother did not return calls. Police would not comment on reports he went out for breakfast on Saturday or how authorities became aware of the incident.

SA Health has named the CBD club among 171 exposure sites. It has forced 150 patrons and staff into quarantine, with many to be still isolating on Christmas Day.

Vaccinated patrons and staff who were at Loverboy between 10.45pm on Friday and 4.15am on Saturday must quarantine for a week, compared to 14 days for the unvaccinated.

Club management have said they want “justice”.

Detectives, with SA Health help, are investigating any breach of emergency management laws, which if proven could lead to a $1000 expiation or possible charges and fines of up to $20,000.

A senior police source said: “It is up to the investigating officer to determine the appropriate course of action.”

A police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.

Mr Marshall said the teenager’s “actions are very regrettable”.

“I think there’s been pretty strong public outrage,” he said.

“I think it just serves as a lesson to everybody that we’ve done well as a state but it does rely on everybody doing the right thing.

“I think it’s a strong message to all other South Australians – if you get a lawful direction from SA Health, you must abide by it.”

The clubber has apologised on social media but asked for negative comments to “just stop”.
