Not good enough on Goodenough Street: Mile End Clinpath Covid test queues leave locals fuming

Frustrated Mile End locals say even traffic controllers seem to have given up trying to manage the constant stream of cars queuing for Covid tests on Goodenough St.

Never-ending queues at a Covid-19 testing clinic in Adelaide’s west are angering residents on a normally quiet suburban street as cars block driveways and disturb the peace.

Since the borders opened to South Australia last month, cars have started to arrive at the Clinpath Pathology Covid-19 testing site in Mile End well before it opens at 8am and the last vehicles don’t leave until midnight.

For 16 hours a day, residents on Goodenough St have to deal with the disruption.

“Getting in and out of the driveway is a pain in the butt and then of course, it’s just the added traffic and noise in the street as well,” resident Nick Rogers said.

“My bedroom is at the front of the house, so you hear the cars starting to roll in fairly early in the morning and then late at night they are still lined up out the front.”

Mr Rogers said the effort of traffic controllers had been inconsistent.

“I’ve spoken to them a couple of times, initially they put out cones over the driveway to stop people from queuing over the driveways, but that’s clearly not happening as we’re talking,” he said.

“I spoke to them again yesterday, but I guess it was just going in one ear and out the other.”

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said she even had her own health concerns about contracting Covid-19.

“It sounds completely crazy, but I’m actually worried about catching Covid from one of the cars with their windows down,” she said.

“If I just walk down the street, they cough and they don’t have a mask on, we just don’t know anymore, particularly with the Omicron variant.”

A West Torrens councillor reportedly visited the street this morning and advised residents he would be following up on the issue with SA Health.

SA Health have directed all enquiries to Clinpath Pathology.

Clinpath Pathology has been contacted for comment.
