Everything you need to know about the Adelaide Test match

How do I get to this week’s Adelaide Test match? What are the conditions of entry? We’ve answered your most pressing questions about the big event.

As the much anticipated second day-night Ashes Test Series, Australia vs. England nears, we have answered your questions about the match, including the current Covid-19 rules, how to get there and more.

Authorities have expressed concern in recent weeks as the Omicron variant is expected to become the dominant strain of Covid-19

There are complex rules for people exposed to Covid positive cases, or anyone who visits a close contact exposure site which can be accessed here.

What are the conditions of entry to Adelaide Oval for the Test match?

Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority last month announced the Adelaide Oval was a vaccination-only venue. In other words, no jab, no entry.

People who are doubled vaccinated will be required to display their Covid-19 proof of vaccination prior to entry.

Those with an official medical exemption to not receive a vaccination will need to show that, and provide a negative test within 72 hours of entering the venue.

People aged under 12 will be allowed in without vaccination.

Premier Steven Marshall said the state government “strongly supports” the double vaccination requirement,

“We think that it’s going to be a safe event,” Mr Marshall said on Monday morning.

What else is required of guests at Adelaide Oval?

Guests are required to bring their own mask to the Test, and wear it at all times including while seated, except when eating or drinking (not required for people under 12 years).

You are also required to QR check-in to the venue in addition to showing your vaccination certificate.

Social distancing of 1.5m is preferred, and guests are asked to only eat and drink while seated.

How do authorities know Omicron will be kept out of the event?

Premier Steven Marshall said there were plenty of “speed bumps” for guests coming from interstate that lowers the risk of an Omicron outbreak.

Currently, anyone who enters South Australia must have returned a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of arrival.

Anyone coming from NSW, Victoria or the ACT must get another test on arrival in SA.

However, interstate arrivals from “moderate risk” areas – while still required to get a Covid test on arrival – will no longer have to isolate until a result, in a win for cricket fans arriving on day one of the Adelaide Oval Test on Thursday.

“We’re not asking people to isolate ahead of getting that test result, but we are making sure that were putting as many speed bumps in the way of this disease and as many flags so that we can early identify a new case, so that it doesn't become a superspreader type activity,” Mr Marshall said.

What happens if I come into contact with a case at the cricket?

Any outbreak at a sporting event would fall under the Test, Trace, Isolate and Quarantine (TTIQ) model meaning anyone identified as a casual contact or a close contact of someone who is COVID-19 positive will be advised by SA Health and provided with advice on what is required with regards to quarantining and getting tested.

Whether you are a casual or close contact is determined by the amount of time you were exposed, how close you were to the case, whether you and the case were wearing a mask, and the setting or location of the exposure.

At times, it may also include other factors like how infectious the case was and how many cases were in the same area.

The SA Health Contact Tracing team uses a wide range of processes, including a full case interview, contact tracing including using QR codes from known venues, and a detailed risk assessment to determine the level of risk.

This assessment will look at the size of the venue, whether it is indoor or outdoor, how many people were in attendance, whether masks were worn, how close people were to each other and more.

If we aren’t able to get in touch directly with contacts of a confirmed case, and if the risk assessment process deems it necessary, exposure locations are then listed publicly with the associated health advice for each location, time and date.

You can see the latest exposure sites below.
