More than 2500 new Covid cases, slight drop on last week

The state has recorded a slight drop in Covid cases, with 2509 new cases identified.

SA has recorded 2500 new Covid cases, a slight drop on last week's previous total of 3173.

There were 6 notified deaths related to the virus, aged from people in their 70s to their 90s. There are 126 people in hospital, including one in ICU.

SA has now recorded a total of 900,575, compared to 898,071 last week.

Some 10,704 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 4 per cent decrease on the previous week.

Of the test results returned, 869 PCR tests were positive and 1640 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Last week, South Australia recorded 3173 new Covid cases, a slight increase on the previous week’s total of 3144.

There were 36 notified deaths related to the virus, aged from people in their 60s to their 100s. There are 124 people in hospital, including three in ICU.

SA recorded a total of 898,071 cases.

SA Health also adjusted its Covid cases from the week before - it previously said SA had recorded 2719 cases, but changed that to 3144.

Some 11,210 people received a PCR test, a 7 per cent increase.

Of the test results returned, 1161 PCR tests were positive and 2012 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Officials had warned people to remain vigilant over the Easter weekend.

It said 125 people were hospitalised – five of which were in the ICU and one person on ventilation.

Professor Nicola Spurrier said she wasn’t able to confirm whether the peak had been reached.

She urged people to remain vigilant over the Easter break and to take Rapid Antigen Tests when symptoms present.

“This is still a really nasty virus,” Prof Spurrier said.

The professor reminded of the importance for people to get a PCR test if they still have symptoms in the wake of a negative RAT.

“The absolute best thing to do is test,” Prof Spurrier said.

“The thing we can all do as a community is not go out when we have symptoms.”

SA Health reported a total of 8734 people received a PCR test in the state – a 15.6 per cent decrease compared to the previous week.

A total of 873 PCR tests returned a positive result.

An additional 1846 people returned a positive RAT and reported it through SA Health.

Two new walk-in PCR testing sites have also opened up in Brighton and Salisbury.
