The Advertiser/7NEWS Adelaide update: SA records biggest Covid spike in more than 18 months

SA Police are investigating an incident where a man allegedly coughed deliberately on a Covid testing site worker.

The man attended the Keith Covid testing site on the Dukes Highway on Monday, November 29, about 2.30pm.

He was allegedly verbally abusive to the worker and, when requested to put on a mask, coughed in the worker’s direction.

Police are investigation the incident and encourage anyone with information that may assist to contact Crime Stoppers.

Meantime, Premier Steven Marshall said in a press conference at Osborne on Thursday morning he was yet to hear of any new cases coming from the 22 aged care facilities that were exposed to Covid.

“The reason we believe there are so few cases is because the entire workforce and all the residents were fully vaccinated,” he said.

“This offers the very best level of protection. We know that if you’re fully vaccinated you’re far less likely to transmit the disease.”

SA Health on Wednesday revealed a vaccinated doctor and physiotherapist visited multiple Adelaide aged care homes while infectious in recent days.

Records show Wednesday’s surge of 25 new cases is the highest number of infectious patients identified in South Australia in a single day since April 1 last year.

Mr Marshall is expected to reveal more of SA’s reopening roadmap – including the date restrictions will be further eased – on Friday.

He has already intimated that SA is expected to hit the 90 per cent vaccination rate by the end of the year, and that the plan once we hit that target would likely include incentives for venues with vaccine mandates.

And the Adelaide Ashes Test is set to start today, with up to 100,000 people expected to watch the game over the next five days.

Australian captain Pat Cummins has been identified as a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case.

If you’re heading to the cricket, here’s everything you need to know about masks and restrictions.
