Nordic Resources’ drilling extends Kopsa well beyond current gold resource

Nordic Resources’ latest drilling at the Kopsa project in Finland has highlighted the potential for expansion beyond the current 814,800oz resource.

Special Report: Nordic Resources is eyeing the expansion of its flagship Kopsa gold and copper deposit in Finland after reporting strong gold grades in extensions from its second batch of drilling assays.

The project hosts a resource of 23.2Mt at 1.09g/t gold equivalent for 814,800oz AuEq, and is one of the company’s three promising plays in Finland’s Middle Ostrobothnia Gold Belt.

Maiden drilling by Nordic Resources (ASX:NNL) now includes two new holes which successfully targeted resource extensions to the southeast of the deposit. That puts the company on track to potentially add more ounces in its next resource update.

Significant intersections included:

  • 54.5m at 0.91g/t gold, 0.11% copper (1.03g/t gold equivalent) and 2g/t silver from 132m (NRKOP25006) including
    • 2m at 2.95g/t gold, 0.08% copper (3.04g/t gold equivalent) and 2g/t silver from 140m
  • 54m at 0.69g/t gold, 0.21% copper (0.92g/t gold equivalent) and 3g/t silver from 75m (NRKOP25008) including
    • 4m at 3.17g/t gold, 0.38% copper (3.59g/t gold equivalent) and 5g/t silver from 92m
  • 30.0m at 0.51g/t Au, 0.15% Cu (0.68g/t AuEq) and 2g/t Ag from 87.8m (NRKOP25006); and
  • 2m at 6.14g/t Au, 0.10% Cu (6.25% AuEq) and 3g/t Ag from 309.8m (NRKOP25006).

NNL says the results maintained the solid continuation of gold mineralisation towards the southeast, an important discovery with further step-out holes planned in this direction.

The southeastern tonalite contact remains entirely untested.

Even more assays pending

The next Kopsa assay results are due shortly and the company expects to continue regular reporting of assay results until at least the end of the March quarter of 2026.

“It is great news to report the discovery of significant southeastern extensions to the gold and copper mineralisation at Kopsa, well beyond the current extent of the resource block model,” NNL executive director Robert Wrixon said.

“Subsequent drilling has recently tested potential near-surface extensions in both the western and southwestern directions, while the current drilling is focused on Kopsa’s northern zone.

“We look forward to updating the market with further assay results as they are received.”

Results from the Kopsa drilling not only showed mineralisation occurring where Nordic assumed it would, but also two shallower zones that were not expected.

Hole NRKOP25008, a step-out to hole 006, was a key example, finding a prominent zone of shallow mineralisation up to 50m from the main zone of the current block model.

The uncovering of that zone and deeper mineralisation to extend the existing lode bodes well for future resource updates.

Including its Hirsikangas and Angesneva resources, Nordic controls some 1.04Moz of gold and 38,000oz of copper in Finland’s Middle Ostrobothnia gold belt, clocking in at 1.23Moz gold equivalent.

Nordic shares have more than doubled since the acquisition was announced in April, putting the company on the forefront of gold development in one of Europe and the world’s best mining jurisdictions.
