SINGAPORE Airlines says it will increase its passenger capacity to Adelaide when it launches a new aircraft in December.
The company this morning announced Adelaide would be the launch destination of its first Airbus A350-900, saying it boasted “unparalleled” comfort and technology.
The new plane, to fly from Adelaide to Singapore daily, will increase the airline’s capacity to Adelaide by about 7 per cent.
Philip Goh, Singapore Airlines’ regional vice president for the southwest Pacific region, said the announcement preceded the airline’s 35th anniversary of operations to Adelaide next year.
“We have proudly operated services to Adelaide since 1984 and the deployment of our first A350-900 medium-haul aircraft with our new medium-haul cabin products to the South Australian capital is an exciting new chapter,” Mr Goh said.
“The decision to deliver increased capacity to the city reinforces our commitment to South Australia and will provide more opportunities to grow inbound and outbound travel.”
Launching on December 18, the new plane will have 40 business class seats and 263 economy seats.
It will feature the latest in-flight entertainment system and high-speed wi-fi.
Adelaide Airport director Mark Young said he was excited Singapore Airlines had chosen Adelaide to launch the Airbus.
“The combination of the Airbus A350-900 technology fitted with the latest cabin product and on top of Singapore Airlines’ outstanding levels of service will boost what is already one of Adelaide Airport’s strongest routes,” Mr Young said.
Meantime, the new Atura Adelaide Airport hotel officially opens tonight, after taking bookings since last weekend.
It features 165 rooms and has a direct walkway linking the hotel with the airport’s domestic and international check-in areas.
The hotel was developed by EVENT Hospitality and Entertainment, which also manages
QT Hotels and Resorts, Rydges Hotels and Resorts, Atura Hotels, Thredbo Resort and Event Cinemas.
