A recruitment drive for up to 70 jobs at a new $50m CBD hotel has started ahead of its opening later this year.
The TRYP by Wyndham project on Pulteney St – opposite the Calvary Adelaide Hospital – is nearing completion, and will feature 120 rooms, a restaurant, bar, gym, library, business centre and boardroom.
It will open in mid-November or December following completion of internal fit-out work, which is currently progressing on-site.
Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific senior vice president operations Warren Cullum said the hotel’s opening coincided with a strong recovery in domestic and international tourism.
“After almost two years of being limited to their own countries, our international tourists are ready to see the world again and many have savings they have put away during Covid-19,” he said.
“We expect to see unprecedented volumes of demand and higher spends than usual for at least the rest of the year, which will go some way towards making up for two lean years.
“We see Adelaide as both a hip city destination in its own right and a convenient base for exploration of the state’s attractions, like the beautiful scenery of Kangaroo Island, one of the best wine regions in the world in Barossa Valley and the scenic Limestone Coast.
“South Australia was a strongly performing market prior to Covid-19 and the most recent figures suggest the state is close to fully recovering.”
The TRYP by Wyndham is one of several hotels currently under construction in Adelaide, as the tourism industry eagerly awaits the return of international travellers following two years of disruption and setbacks.
They include Greaton's $200m hotel at the historic GPO site, which will include 285 rooms when it opens next year, and the $45m Vibe Hotel on Flinders St, which will feature 123 rooms and a suspended pool bridge when it opens later this year.
TRYP by Wyndham will become the first Wyndham-branded hotel in South Australia.
The group has five other hotels in the pipeline including the Ramada by Wyndham Playford, currently under construction at Elizabeth, and the Wyndham Grand Adelaide at the former Adelaide Metro information centre site on the corner of King William and Currie streets.
That 353-room hotel project is expected to get under way next year, ahead of a planned opening in 2026.
Mr Cullum said Wyndham was recruiting for a general manager to open and manage the TRYP by Wyndham site, and to lead the recruitment of up to 70 full-time, part-time and casual workers.
“A TRYP team has an upbeat culture, knows the hidden gems to recommend and always delivers those important touches that make a stay truly personalised,” he said.
“We are looking for a lively team of people who understand Adelaide’s distinct personality and can showcase that to visitors from all over the world.”
