Warrawee Impresareeo making impression on show horse circuit

All eyes at recent show horse events have been on handsome young Warrawee Impresareeo. And the Southern Cross Show Horse Spectacular in Sydney has been no exception.

THE handsome black gelding Warrawee Impresareeo shown by Elizabeth Krog seems to be the new star of the show horse world.

He attracted all eyes when he took out the champion Newcomer and champion open hack at the Victorian Show Horse Council’s November championships and won the same classes at Barastoc Horse of the Year Show.

He repeated both wins in the Southern Cross Show Horse Spectacular in Sydney last weekend and at just five years of age, in his first year under saddle and still working in a snaffle bridle, he was foot perfect through his classes and then won the Grand Champion Open Horse award, winning $1000 for his owners.

“We are very overwhelmed. For such a young horse he has blown us away,’’ said Krog.

“Pat Ryan, his breeder at Warrawee Stud showed him to me as a two-year-old and I fell in love with him straight away.”

Show horse competitors usually show just for the love of their sport, so the prizemoney and trophies offered at the Southern Cross event was welcome.

Stephanie Barrington won the Grand Champion Ridden Show Hunter section with Rebelle, taking home a $1,000 CBC Travel voucher as well as $1000 cash and the Grand Champion Owner/Rider winner, Melissa Harding on Danson Dakota won $5000 in cash as well as $5,000 in product.

Victoria’s biggest show has discarded the saddle Shetland classes which is a shame as they are so popular, but the Southern Cross show still held them with a class of more than 20, where the Champion Ridden Shetland was Lillie Ford’s Dunavon James The First, a super little pony who is no stranger to being at the top of the line.

Other Victorians to make the trip north and to do well were Sue Thompson’s Givenchy, Champion small hack, Emily Murray’s Riegal Manolete, the Champion small show hunter and Christine Frost’s Ink was the winner of the child’s large show hack championship.

Brynie Lee was the Grand Champion rider over 18 years, taking home a diamond embossed horseshoe necklace and Annabelle Richardson rode the Grand Champion Mini Horse Braeburn Park Spring Dance and was Grand Champion junior rider under 12 years.

ELLIS ROCKETS WAY TO GRAND PRIX WIN

YARRA Valley Showjumping club held its annual Easter Showjumping carnival at Wandin Park, providing a weekend of family fun.

Not only did the riders enjoy great competition but the committee provided a giant slippery dip down a large hill which was very popular with visitors.

With three days of competition across two rings there were classes for everyone and course designer David Sheppard was kept extremely busy.

Jamie Ellis on her New Zealand import Centaur MVNZ won the Castlefin Equestrian 1.30m Grand Prix class from Murray Lamperd and Sebastian. Ellis jumped a very fast second round to win the class by more than three seconds.

Grace Ivill took the ride on Jess Patemans’ Lamaz and won the 1.20m jump-off class. They jumped double clean to relegate Jack Barker and Mighty Tosca into second place.

The 1.25m jump-off class was won by Sophia Landy riding Jaybee Artiste B who took more than three seconds off the time of second place-getter Lorna Reilly and Bellhaven Jazz.

Sienna Holdsworth-Rose and Coolart Farm Short Torque had a highly successful weekend. This combination won the 1.15m jump-off class in a very slick time to finish just half a second ahead of Jack Barker and Mighty Tosca.

Holdsworth-Rose also went on to win section one of the 1.10m ahead of Daniel Leach and Killara Park Cassius Clay.

Section two of the 1.10m jump-off class was won by Airlie Robinson riding Yalambi’s Corlandia ahead of Isobel Houghton and Jazdan Duke VEH.

The 1.05m speed class saw a very quick Hamish Prime riding Saddle Up Bella take the win from Zoe Boulton and Luscious Lola.

Off The Track also sponsored a well-supported 1.05m class for retired racehorses. Some 22 horses started, with Zoe Waller and Bequest declared the winner from Anthony Bentley and Aleksandr Meerkat.

Other winners included Amelia Tsilfidis and Pride of Gold, Alice Darby and Tinker Tailor, Chloe Bell and Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows, Lyla Ferrari and Mingarra Lovebug and Maggie Brewer and Lincoln.
