Stawell co-coach Perry Meka hit with five-match ban by Wimmera FNL tribunal

Stawell co-coach Perry Meka has been slapped with a five-match ban, his second suspension since late June. See the details.

Stawell co-coach Perry Meka has been hit with his second suspension since late June from the Wimmera league tribunal.

Meka was outed for five matches after being found guilty on three code of conduct charges arising from a tribunal hearing late last month where he received a three-match ban for a game day incident.

Meka was appointed non-playing co-coach of Stawell to assist first-year playing co-coach James Sullivan after Tom Eckel stepped aside at the end of last season.

His initial three-match ban was handed out for an incident near the Stawell interchange bench against Southern Mallee Thunder on June 28.

Meka appeared before the tribunal the following week and alleged actions after being suspended led to an investigation.

Subsequent to the investigation, Meka was charged with three separate code of conduct breaches and again appeared before the tribunal last Thursday when he received his latest suspension.

He won’t be able to serve in any official match-day role until the second week of the Wimmera league finals series with Stawell guaranteed a double chance finish after a thrilling win against second-placed Nhill last Saturday.

Meka previously coached in the Goulburn Valley and Kyabram District leagues and topped the GVL goalkicking in 1986.
