Riders jump at chance to compete in regional show

Regional riders supported the Northern Victoria Showjumping Club’s competition, adhering to strict COVID rules.

WITH border restrictions in place only competitors from regional Victoria could attend, but good numbers still supported the Northern Victoria Showjumping Club’s spring jumping show at the Hunter reserve in Shepparton.

Strict COVID practices were adhered to and a COVID officer checked that everyone was doing the right thing.

Local rider Russell Hearn didn’t let the long lay-off interfere with his preparations when he took first and second place in the 1.25m speed class.

Club president Stuart Abrahams had a good show with his recent New Zealand import Charlton Baazar. The combo jumped a super fast round to win the 1.15m speed class from Tull Canning and Rivertown Affirmation before also taking out the 1.10m jump off class ahead of Hamish Prime and Saddle Up Bella.

It was a battle of the palominos in the 95cm speed class when Amelia Tsilfidis and Pride of Gold jumped a super fast round to narrowly beat Samantha Richardson and Gold Play. The 1.05m speed class was won by Stuart Walker and Exaggeration from Amelia Tsilfidis and Pride of Gold.

James Richards rode Foreign Secret to win the 1.30m jump off class from Adam Prime and Saddle Up Smudge. Jamie Coman rode Comacho to win the 1.20m jump off class. Second went to Russell Hearn and RBH Mr Image. The 1.00m jump off class was won by Lachlan Waddell and Wilfred.

Other winners included Meagan Hodge and Dragon Fire, Ryan Waddell and Zorro, Rhonda Thomson and Harmony Park China Girl and Ian Watt and Lucky Diamond.
