Corowa-Rutherglen has confirmed its interest in adding former Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs player Jackson Trengrove to its ranks before the June 30 clearance deadline.

Coach Peter German said the club had sufficient player-points space to accommodate Trengove, who departed Murray league club Barooga last week after 10 matches as coach.

Corowa-Rutherglen remains in contention to play finals in the Ovens and Murray despite a heavy loss to Myrtleford on Saturday.

“We’ve lost about five senior players to injury in the last three to four weeks and any quality player we can get now would be handy,” German said.

“We played Myrtleford at the weekend and their average age was 27 and ours was 22.

“If we could get some more experience and a bigger body we’ll go after them.”

Trengove lined up for Wimmera league club Southern Mallee Giants on Saturday.

But The Weekly Times understands the move is not a permanent one, with other clubs across the state starting to show interest in his services.

He was a five-point player at Barooga.

Barooga president Marcus Fry said the club and Trengove had reached a “mutual agreement” on his exit before the June 30 deadline with Barooga out of finals contention.

“He wasn’t sacked,” Fry said.

“We came to a mutual agreement to part ways with June 30 around the corner.

“Both parties agreed it was going to be a really long haul for the next few years.

“He’s got the chance to go and play with a club that is looking for some success.”

Barooga’s 1997 premiership coach Tony Tranter will coach the club for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Drouin’s coach of the past five seasons, Jordan Kingi, is standing down at the end of the season.

Kingi will stay on at the Gippsland league club in an assistant role to his successor Brent Clinnick, who had been in an assistant coach role with Dandenong Stingrays, Frankston and Phillip Island before joining Drouin.

Drouin sits on the bottom of the ladder, but pushed finals contender Maffra to 11 points on Saturday.
