They were rivals merely 24 hours ago, but John Paul College duo Mya Moke and Olivia Olechnowicz partnered up to send a statement to the rest of the Championship women division.
The pair combined for almost 50 points, as their John Paul College side capped off a brilliant start to the Basketball Australia Schools Championships with a 104-71 win over Caulfield Grammar.
Moke finished the match with a double-double, racking up 22 points and 10 assists, while Olechnowicz 24 points and nine rebounds in the dominant display.
Josie Agnew was energetic for the Caulfield side, putting up 21 shots for her 17 points in the tough loss.
Australian under-17 teammates Jessie-May Hall (13pts, 7ast, 7stl) and Sienna Lehmann (16pts, 16reb) put on a show when Barker College trumped Immanuel College by 66-60 in their opening clash, but it was 14-year-old Sasha Clague who stole the show.
Clague, an Australian under-15 and NSW Metro under-16 representative, led the way for Barker with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
South Australian scoring machine Paddy D’Arcy made sure his Concordia College side kicked off the Under-20 Division 1 Men tournament right, dropping 26 points in their 71-60 win over Hillcrest Christian College.
It set the tone for a big day of scoring on the show court at Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre with Brisbane Grammar School and St James College both passing 70 points in their Under-20 Men Div 1 wins.
Charlie Mcbeath had a monster game for St Gregory’s College with 25 points and 18 rebounds, while Kingston Tutani chimed in with 27pts, but they couldn’t stop Brisbane BoysCollege from securing a 96-87 win in their men’s championship match.
Charles Hinson (20pts), Emerson Juhasz (19pts 10 reb 5 ast) and Lee Van Der Westhuizen (18pts) led BBC to victory.
Berwick College ran away with a 91-70 win against Willetton SHS in the late game.
