There was a huge statement from a Queensland star and a nailbiting conclusion in women’s action as the U20 Nationals heated up on Wednesday. Watch every Court 6 REPLAY.
Tasmania has held on in the dying moments to secure its first win of the tournament in thrilling fashion.
The girls from the Apple Isle shot out of the blocks like a cannon against South Australia before holding on to win 65-63.
It was one of six Court 6 matches live streamed by KommunityTV.
Tassie fired out to a 33-18 lead at the first change on the back of supreme work by the likes of Chloe Broomhall and Lucy Aherne before the Croweaters struck back to bring the game down to the last minute.
Down by two, SA had the chance to send the game to overtime but a buzzer-beater effort from Coco Hodges did not get a friendly roll.
Meanwhile, the Roman Empire is well and truly upon us after a freakish performance individual inspired Queensland to their second consecutive victory.
Maroons superstar Roman Siulepa was at his breathtaking best landing 41 points, 17 rebounds and six assists as Queensland shook loose a dogged ACT outfit to win 97-86.
Renowned for his slam-dunking exploits, Siulepa also had his radar on out wide with seven triples, including the last play on halftime to give the Queenslanders a six-point lead.
The ACT refused to lie down and reclaimed the lead with a strong third quarter thanks to Dante Brunton, who delivered a polished performance.
But the final quarter saw Siulepa, with his freakish athleticism, lift his workrate and his teammates as the Queenslanders took control of the contest.
Fellow Maroons heavyweight Indy Cotton chimed in with 19 points and captain Cooper Rowlings (13) also kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Any doubts about Victoria’s prospects of going back-to-back as the men’s Ivor Burge champions can be cast aside after they pummelled an unfamiliar international opponent.
In a brutal greeting for newcomers New Zealand, Victoria stole a march and led by 34 points before the visitors even scored as they charged relentlessly to a 141-22 victory.
While Victoria did little wrong in their opening game demolition, fellow grand final opponents in 2024, South Australia, also put their hands up to be a genuine contender again.
Smashing Queensland 147-33, the South Australians were awesome as their dismantled their rivals with countless avenues to the net.
