Southern Districts once again showed why the NTFL premiership may be theirs to lose after securing a monster win over Wanderers in round 17. Watch the match REPLAY here.

Replay: Wanderers v Southern Districts — 2024-25 NTFL Round 17

Table toppers Southern Districts flexed their muscles in a demolition job of Wanderers to further their lead at the top.

The Crocs didn’t let securing the minor premiership slow them down as they took the challenge to the Muk Muks at Tracy Village Oval with the same intensity as recent weeks.

Steven Motlop and Will Farrer scored four goals each as their side blew the score out to a 21.13 (139) to 1.2 (8) win.

They weren’t the only ones to impact the scoreboard with Jed Anderson and Beau Schwarze adding three each in a side with nine scorers total.

Wanderers, meanwhile, struggled for any sort of parity only scoring once, in the first quarter, through young gun Sonny Smiler.

Otherwise, they were competing for second place trying to assert themselves but unable to impact the score in any way.

The Districts defence did what it needed to do, otherwise the ruck dominance of Wyatt Ryan and Anderson and Matt Shannon tore the game away from the home side.

PREVIEW

While Southern Districts may have secured the minor premiership with two games to play, they will be intent on not dropping a game to Wanderers in round 17.

The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 4pm on Saturday.

The Crocs have been the dominant force all year and are the expected favourites when they travel to Tracy Village Oval.

Jed Anderson and Matt Shannon were impressive again against the Bombers last round and are on a real role in tandem with the likes of Jack Sexton in dominating the midfield.

While they’ll be lacking serious firepower upfront with Steven Motlop suspended, they still have options in Shannon and Will Farrer.

Both players enter the match in the top five goal scorers this season.

They’ll take the challenge to a Wanderers side fresh off a bye and looking for some much needed confidence after falling off post-Christmas break.

The Muk Muks will want to finish their season off on a strong note, and while that doesn’t mean they have to beat Districts, they will want to give a positive account of themselves.

Defence duo Mitchel Taylor and Riley Calvene have been standouts in back-half, while Austin Smith has impressed as well, but they’ll want a much more balanced showing to impress this weekend.

The full match replay will be available at the conclusion of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
