Kyabram District: Operations manager Michael Houston secures new job with AFL Queensland
The Kyabram District league is back in the market for an operations manager as longer term admin arrangements are being explored.
The Kyabram District league has embarked on some “due diligence” for a potential exit from the AFL Goulburn-Murray administration hub.
The current service agreement for the hub to handle the league’s operations ends in October next year, but is back in the spotlight with present operations manager Michael Houston to depart shortly and take up a position with AFL Queensland.
AFLGM is working to fill the void quickly given the busy period leading into finals is about to start.
“We have made a commitment to AFL Goulburn-Murray and the commission that we will see out the current contract,” KDL president Peter Cordy said.
“But we have discussed with our clubs, as we have discussed with them, that we will be doing as the clubs have asked us to do and that is some due diligence on everything else that is out there.
“They will then be able to make an informed decision early next year whether they wish to continue in the current arrangement, or they wish to seek to do something else.”
Options include sticking with the hub or being independently administered like the neighbouring Murray league, but remaining affiliated with the AFL.
The KDL has had four operations managers since the Covid interrupted seasons of 2020-21.
Dookie United left the KDL at the end of last season and joined the unaffiliated Picola District league.
The Goulburn Valley league is also administered by the AFLGM hub led by regional manager Shaun Connell.
