Kerang being looked at for ‘potential’ salary cap breach after last season
One of country footy’s most dominant clubs of the last 15 years has revealed it is being investigated for possible salary cap “anomalies”. Here’s what we know.
A country footy club has revealed it is under investigation for possible salary cap breaches.
Kerang Football Netball Club says it is fully co-operating with the AFL after revealing the investigation in a statement on Monday night.
The club said it is being looked at after “anomalies” were identified following a review of their CCSP-PPR (Community Club Sustainability Program - Player Payment Rule) last season.
In 2024, Kerang finished as runners-up in the Central Murray league, losing to Nyah Nyah West in the grand final.
The Blues have been the benchmark in the competition for the past 15 years, winning eight of the last 10 premierships before losing to the Demons in 2024.
There is no suggestion the club did anything wrong during that period of dominance, from 2012 to 2023, the only year being investigated is last year.
“We would like to advise that the Kerang Football Netball Club are being investigated following anomalies identified in a Compliance Review of the CCSP-PPR for season 2024,” a statement said.
“A potential breach has been identified due to an administrative error. We are fully co-operating with AFL investigators throughout the process.
“No further statements will be made at this time.”
