Hume: CDHBU defeats Rand-Walbundrie-Walla in first round match
See all the action from the round one Hume league clash between CDHBU Power and RWW Giants.
The Hume league’s 2022 grand finalists, premier Holbrook and runner-up Osborne, both recorded six-point wins in round one on Saturday against teams looming as major threats to them this year.
Holbrook stormed home to beat Osborne in the grand final last year and held onto beat Jindera in the season opening match after leading by 41 points at halftime.
Wangaratta Rovers recruit Raven Jolliffe starred in his first outing for Holbrook.
Premiership coach Matt Sharp sat the match out due to injury.
A six-goal third quarter from Howlong had it on the brink of victory against Osborne before it steadied in the final term to win by a goal.
Osborne coach Joel Mackie was best on ground for the victors and Howlong had two former Corowa-Rutherglen players, Jarred Lane and Matthew Wilson playing their first games.
Lockhart, which went through last season winless, thrashed Murray Magpies by 172 points with Harrison Brown and Hunter Lloyd kicking six goals each.
Lloyd joined Lockhart this season from Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes after sitting out last year.
Billabong Crows downed former league powerhouse BB Saints by seven points and Culcairn started the season with a 15-point win against Henty.
