World famous show online for first time

The world famous CHIO Aachen horse show will for the first time in history be an online-only event.

THE world famous CHIO Aachen horse show will for the first time in history be an online-only event this year.

Concours Hippique International Officiel will change its name just for this year and will be known as Concours Hippique International Online after organisers were forced to cancel the 2020 running of the prestigious event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The online edition of CHIO Aachen will take place from August 4-9.

While it will be difficult to replicate the thrills and excitement of the real thing, the online version will be a combination of virtual experiences, social media, sports and entertainment.

Events planned are a dressage and showjumping challenge, and a virtual eventing competition.

There will be plenty of opportunity for fan involvement, a mobile phone game and a German versus. Dutch national cup in four-in-hand driving.

The organisers also plan to show highlights of some of the most famous competitions in the world from past years including The Rolex Grand Prix, Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup, and Deutsche Bank Prize.

Hopefully these will be enriched with current comments by athletes, background information, fun facts and a lot of material that has not been seen before.

Although a live event would be preferable with all the sights and sounds of the showgrounds, organisers hope they will be able to bring a great deal of the legendary CHIO Aachen atmosphere to the people’s homes.

Equestrian sport already relies heavily on state-of-the-art technology and digital equipment to showcase its unique skills. This just might be a whole new way to run shows.
