A LARGE crowd was again attracted to the National Cutting Horse Assocation event at Tatura at the weekend and the horses offered plenty to cheer for.

Heavy Metal, a chestnut stallion owned by Jodie Mearns and Chris Ware, from Dungowan, NSW, and ridden by Todd Graham, backed up his win in the 2015 Open Futurity at Tamworth in June by taking out the NCHA Shadow Trailers Australia Victorian Futurity.

He scored 150 points, two ahead of Fix it Felix and Aaron Wheatley.

The open cutting champions were Vaughn McGuinness and the sensational chestnut Roc N Rio with a score of 148 and they made it a double taking out the open non-pro cutting on a whopping 151, which had the crowd cheering.

Teresa Russo and the wonderful One Roan Peptos won the ladies’ pink cutting from a huge field, who wore something pink to honour breast cancer sufferers, with an amazing score of 154.

The bay roan stallion is so pretty and really deserved his super score, working without a bridle. He finished second with 146 to Roc N Rio in the open cutting.

The non-pro futurity was won by This Catifex, ridden by Dean Jones and owned by Julie Jones, and the NCHA amateur buckle was awarded to Carl Stepnell riding Cataboonsmal.

The open derby Victorian champion is Corey Holden and the great working Chisums Blue Spin, owned by Greg and Tracy Clavarino, with a score of 150 points

Staring Pepto, ridden by Andrew Wringley, won the $7500 non-pro championship with 147.5, just half a point ahead of Jennifer Brown on One Hellofa Acres.

The champion in the non-pro classic challenge went to Acres Outlaw and Ashleigh Meagher on a score of 150.

Snafflebit winner was Keely Murch riding Fancy Commanchie and the junior class winner was Gus Everingham riding Jabell Mandee with a score of 146

There was a tie in the senior youth between Ashleigh Meagher riding Smokin Little Scotty and Keeley Murch riding Alittle Red Colonel both on 147.
