CHAMPION equestrian Andrew Hoy, at age 60, has a strong chance of representing his country at the Tokyo Olympic Games and if so will join an elite group of athletes who will have been involved eight times.

Only 10 athletes have competed at eight Olympics, with the record of 10 held by retired Canadian equestrian athlete Ian Millar.

Hoy won gold in the equestrian team eventing section in 1992, 1996 and 2000 and silver in Sydney in individual eventing. He carried the Australian flag in the opening ceremony at the Atlanta Games in 1996.

Hoy made his Olympic debut on Davey at the Los Angeles Games in 1984 and has also won two team bronze medals at World Equestrian Games. Based at the Somerby Stables in Leicestershire, he is in strong form with his Tryon World Equestrian Games mount Vassilly de Lassos finishing third on his dressage score at the Polish Strzegom October Festival Horse Trials and ninth with second ride, the mare, Bloom des Hauts Crets.

This gained both mounts an official Olympic accreditation.

He expressed his happiness on Twitter after the event saying “I very much hope to be able to wear the green and gold once more in 2020 and that we as a team will be able to make our country proud.”
