Hampden league: Maskell Medal vote count revised format

Covid has changed many things, including best and fairest vote counts. See how one major league is changing things this season.

Chiltern climbs to top of the ladder

The Hampden league will hold its Maskell Medal count next month under a revised format aimed at giving its 10 clubs a chance to raise sorely needed funds after two seasons ruined by Covid.

The September 11 count will be live streamed into clubs to enable them to host functions with league officials on hand to present winners with their medals.

Traditionally best and fairest counts are large events and costly for leagues to stage.

Last year the Hampden league count was broadcast on radio due to public gathering restrictions.

“Clubs were asked about the idea and nine clubs agreed,” Hampden administrator Mike Farrow said.

“We will do live crosses to winners on the day in their club venue.”

A leading contender for this year’s Maskell Medal is Koroit ruckman Jeremy Hausler, who has been in the ladder leader’s best players 12 of 14 times.
