Damian Drum will end a 21-year absence from the football coaching ranks when he takes on the co-coach job of the Goulburn Valley interleague team with current Mooroopna coach John Lamont.

The GV board ticked off the dual appointment this week for its clash against arch-rival Ovens and Murray at the Albury Sportsground in May.

Drum’s last coaching job was in charge of the now defunct Bendigo VFL team in 2002.

At the end of that season he made a successful entry to state politics before a switch to the federal arena.

He stood down as the member for Nicholls before last year’s federal election when Sam Birrell retained the seat for the Nationals.

Drum previously coached Fremantle in the AFL.

Lamont has been coach of Mooroopna since 2019 and led the club into finals last year.

Damian Sexton will coach the O and M again after leading them to a crushing win over the GV last year.
