George Edmiston dies in car accident last weekend in Meredith
For the second time this month, Ballarat sporting clubs are mourning the loss of a loved player following the death of a young footballer at the weekend. His family pays tribute.
The family of George Edmiston will always remember the cheeky, full of energy, person who made every moment count during his life.
The Ballarat sporting community is once again reeling after Edmiston died on Saturday night in a car crash near Meredith, halfway between Ballarat and Geelong.
The 21-year-old former Damascus College student was a player at the Mount Clear Football Club during his junior years before then playing for Gordon in the Central Highlands Football League.
His death follows the loss of Ballarat-Redan cricket captain Jayden Hayes earlier this month.
“George was the light of our lives,” his family told this masthead.
“Cheeky, full of energy, and always wore a grin on his face that could brighten any room.
“His infectious laugh and carefree attitude was contagious and he lived every day with purpose.”
His family said he just loved life and being around people.
“Whether he was fishing, working hard, riding his motorbike, hanging out with family and friends, playing with his Ute, or simply being his goofy self, George knew how to make every moment count,” they said.
“George’s love for life was matched only by his love for those around him, and his caring yet ratbag nature has left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
“Our family are forever grateful for the time we shared with George.
“The memories we made remain in our hearts, and George’s spirit will continue to live and inspire us, always.
“Rest in paradise, Georgie.
“You will always be loved, and you will never be forgotten.”
Gordon president Kellee Frazer said the club was devastated to lose one of it’s former players.
Edmiston joined in 2020 and played his first senior game in 2023.
“He came to the club to join some mates from school,” she revealed.
“He had an infectious personality and was just a lovely person who was great to have around the club.
“Everyone made friends with him really quickly.”
Edmiston is survived by his father Andrew, mother Simone, sister Harriet and partner Morgan.
His funeral will be held on November 28 at the North Ballarat Sports Club, starting at 11am.
