The Goulburn Murray region is home to some of the state’s best country footballers. Here’s 30 elite talents in northern Victoria outside of the GVL.

The Goulburn Murray region is home to some of the best hidden gems in country footy.

Outside of the Goulburn Valley League, the region’s premier competition, the football talent continues to grow.

Here’s a look at 30 of the top players from across the Murray, Kyabram District and Picola and District competitions.

9 - KD

Ethan Arnold (Rushworth, Kyabram District)

In his season year with the club after crossing from White Hills. Impresses with his hard running ability.

Tom Barnes (Nagambie, Kyabram District)

Missed all of last season through injury but has made a triumphant return to the field as one of the league’s best players.

Bailey Bell (Katandra, Picola and District)

Joined the club as a co-coach in the off-season and has led by example throughout.

James Boyer (Congupna, Murray)

Putting together another brilliant season with his side unbeaten and the red hot flag favourites. Has arguably taken his game to another level.

Ashton Cashion (Murchison-Toolamba, Kyabram District)

As taken his game to another level this season as the Hoppers look for more premiership success.

Lochie Conboy (Berrigan, Picola and District)

Returned to the club during the off-season after a stint in Melbourne. He’s slotted straight into the Saints midfield.

Alex Crnko (Avenel, Kyabram District)

Continues to impress as one of the leading forwards in the competition.

Tom Davies (Lancaster, Kyabram District)

Missed all of last season with a knee injury but Davies has been quick to remind everyone why he’s one of the league’s most consistent.

Nick Dore (Barooga, Murray)
Before this season, Dore had played six games for Barooga in 2021. After the last two seasons with Kew, he has returned and been one of his side’s most consistent.

Liam Edwards (Longwood, Kyabram District)

Now in his second season with the club and remains one of their most consistent players.

Liam Evans (Nathalia, Murray)

A long time servant of the Purps and he is currently the leading goalkicker in his competition.

Kyle Fitzgerald (Tongala, Murray)

Consistently been one of his side’s better players in recent seasons but is arguably enjoying the best year of his career in the ruck.

Jordan Gattuso (Shepparton East, Kyabram District)

One of the more experienced players in the competition who continues to deliver for the Eagles.

Bradley Gleeson (Violet Town, Kyabram District)

Been a leading player as coach in Violet Town’s finals push after returning to the club. He was playing at Euroa.

Cody Haub (Picola United, Picola and District)

A leader at his footy club who continues to deliver on a consistent basis.

Will Henderson (Deniliquin Rams, Murray)

After being limited to just eight games last season, Henderson has been one of the Rams best.

Callum Leighton-Daly (Waaia, Picola and District)

A new recruit at the start of the season and has been impressive with his cleanliness around stoppages and cool head.

Matt Lias (Echuca United, Murray)

Would be winning his side’s best-and-fairest. Lias has been a standout contributor after returning to the club after winning a GVL premiership with Echuca last year.

Ned McKeown (Tungamah, Picola and District)

Joined the club from Swan Hill at the start of the season and has emerged as the league’s best forward this season.

Jackson Meade (Mulwala, Murray)

A consistent senior player in recent seasons after crossing from Yarrawonga.

Kyle Mueller (Congupna, Murray)

Kicked a ton last year in the premiership win after crossing from Kyabram. Again enjoying a fine season as one of the league’s best forwards.

Michael Mummery (Rumbalara, Murray)

Joined the club from the Murray Magpies at the start of the season and has been brilliant as Rumba’s leading forward.

Jordan O’Dwyer (Numurkah, Murray)

A real leader for his footy club. O’Dwyer has continued to be among the most consistent in his competition.

Jonathan Pearson (Stanhope, Kyabram District)

Has taken his goalkicking to another level this season with 33 goals in 10 games.

Alec Ritchie (Cobram, Murray)

One of the leading youngsters in the competition. He was named the Tigers Players’ Player last season.

Bryden Squire (Congupna, Murray)

Super consistent this year after being limited to just seven games in 2024. Playing a key role in The Road’s push for back-to-back flags.

Khy Stovell (Moama, Murray)

Returned to the club at the start of the season after a couple of years away. He’s been dynamic inside forward 50 as one of the competition’s leading goalkickers.

Levy Tejones (Rumbalara, Murray)

In his second season with the club. Tejones continues to be consistent with his ability to impact the game forward of centre.

Tobias Thoolen (Moama, Murray)

Joined from Swan Hill at the start of the season. Been a leading force in the ruck.

Mitch Ward (Katamatite, Picola and District)

The youngster has shouldered a large offensive load and continues to deliver.
