Country footy: Harley Reid plays first game for Tongala ahead of AFL draft
In what could be his final match for Tongala for many years, Harley Reid has produced a match to remember.
Likely No. 1 AFL draft pick Harley Reid has helped home club Tongala snap an eight-match losing streak with a 45-point win over Echuca United in the Murray league.
After playing mostly for Bendigo Pioneers followed by Victorian Country in the under 18 nationals championships, the hottest young talent in Australia lined up in his first and most likely only match for Tongala this year.
Reid was named Tongala’s best player and booted three goals with the club recording its first win since round 6.
Last season Reid played two matches for the club where his father Mark played more than 350 matches.

Flag favourite Robinvale-Euston has steadied late to beat its biggest threat for the premiership, Mildura, by 12 points.
Inacurracy in front of goal threatened to bring Robinvale-Euston unstuck with Mildura closing to within two points at three quarter time.
In the final quarter it again was wayward, but 1.5 to 0.1 was enough to avoid a repeat of its only loss this season to Mildura in round 6.
Queensland recruit Jack Taylor starred for Robinvale-Euston with Michael Zappia and Dylan Adkins also playing important roles.
Leading goalkicking Isaiah Johnson kicked three goals to take his season tally to be 16 clear of Wentworth’s Jarrod Brander with three rounds remaining.
Mildrua coach Sam Kerridge was named his team’s best player.

Holbrook has replicated some of its final quarter of heroics from last season’s grand final by steam rolling flag favourite Osborne to win by 16 points on Saturday.
Osborne was undefeated heading into last year’s grand final before Holbrook unleashed a seven goals to one final term to record a famous win.
On Saturday, Osborne went into the match on a 13-match winning streak and was again run down by Holbrook in the final quarter.
Holbrook signalled its intention early with the first three goals of the match.
Andrew Mackinlay booted the first two goals of the match before Raven Jolliffe took a great mark and also kicked truly to give Holbrook the ideal start.
Osborne responded to trail by only a point at halftime and Holbrook still led by 10 points before Osborne hit the front in the third.
The Tigers slammed on five goals to two in the third term to lead by 10 points before the match was turned on its head again by Holbrook.
Jolliffe, Brad Carman and athletic ruckman Jayden Hucker were instrumeal in the last term surge with Mackinlay booting a further three goals to finish with five.
Both teams were below strength with victors missing Michael Rampal, Luke Gestier and Logan Hamilton and Sam Livingstone and Dan Madden among those on the sidelines for Osborne.
