Seymour ponders options as Saad Saad pines for clearance
SAAD Saad’s retirement could have just started.
SAAD Saad’s retirement could have just started.
The mercurial half-forward sat out of Seymour’s game on Saturday in the Goulburn Valley league having lodged clearances to Peninsula league club Pines in the days before.
Saad, who recently told The Weekly Times this season would be his last in football, said he had wanted to play with former Seymour premiership teammate Paul Scanlon at Pines before hanging up the boots.
With the clearances denied by his current club, he was embracing retirement, denying there had been any disagreement to bring about the move and declaring Seymour would always be his “home club”.
Seymour president Craig Velt said Saad’s clearance request came out of the blue.
“We’re still absorbing the situation and figuring out whether we’ll accept the clearance or stick to our guns and say you’re a contracted player,” Velt said.
“There’s no hard feelings but what we’ve got to make sure is the club comes before any individual and the example’s set for the future (on player contracts and commitments).”
