Luke Dyer wins fifth Football Netball East Gippsland best-and-fairest
The Lindenow football captain has added to an already impressive trophy cabinet.
LINDENOW captain Luke Dyer won his fifth East Gippsland league best-and-fairest on Monday night.
Dyer polled 25 votes — including seven best-on-grounds — the same tally as his first win in 2009. He polled 23 votes to win in 2010, then went back-to-back again in 2016-17 with 26 votes each time.
Paul Carroll, who has long been affiliated with Lindenow, coached Dyer in 2010.
He said Dyer leads by example and described him as fearless, hard-running and a ball magnet. But he also said Dyer contributed significantly around the club.
“He’s a loyalist — he does the running for under-14s on Sunday, and he and Bayden Ashwood coached the under-14s last year,” Carroll said. “So he’s not just a guy who worries about his own footy, he is into development of kids.
“He is a hard worker on the field and inspires by doing, not saying — he’s not a confident talker or anything like that but he plays at a high level week in, week out and you know what you’re going to get out of him.”
Boisdale-Briagolong’s David McKean was the runner-up with 20 votes. Lindenow won the minor premiership and will play Boisdale-Briagolong in a semi-final next weekend.
The Tallangatta and District league’s best-and-fairest was also on Monday night, with Tallangatta’s ruckman Scott Spencer winning the Barton Medal with 30 votes.
Thurgoona’s Jayden Kotzur and Rutherglen’s Damien Wilson were joint runners-up.
