Omeo and District grand final: Grand final moved from Ensay
THE Omeo and District Football League grand final will not be played at its traditional venue at Ensay this year.
THE Omeo and District Football League grand final will not be played at its traditional venue at Ensay this year.
Instead, the decider on August 26 will be played at Swan Reach.
League president Ray Gallagher said they had hoped for more rain to help the football ground, but eventually the uneven grass coverage and hard surface ruled it out.
The uneven surface of the netball courts also caused the game to be moved. Gallagher said the netballers were “pretty adamant it shouldn’t be there”. “Despite the efforts of the recreation reserve committee to rectify it they haven’t been able to come up to scratch,” he said.
Gallagher said the decision was made on Saturday after the second semi-final.
Dual reigning premier Lindenow South booked its place in the grand final by beating Bruthen, so it will host this weekend’s preliminary finals.
Ensay doesn’t have a football team, but the ground has traditionally hosted four weeks of Omeo finals every August.
