Central Murray: Patrick Veszpremi stars in Woorinen victory over Kerang

Former first-round AFL draft selection Patrick Veszpremi has played a starring role in Woorinen’s best win of the season against previously undefeated Kerang in the Central Murray league.
The former Sydney and Western Bulldogs player kicked three important goals in the absence of regular forwards Tom Eltringham and Clayton McCartney in the victory that brought Kerang’s 11-match winning run to an end.
Woorinen also had the services of Bendigo Pioneers listed duo Lachlan Wright, who kicked four goals, and Nyawi Moore, due to a NAB league bye and key defender Ben Booth was back from injury.
“We haven’t been close to full strength for the whole year and always had five or six out,” Woorien coach Marcus Demaria said.
“They were missing a few key players today also.
“But our pressure was the key, we were relentless over the four quarters.”
Kerang was missing some star power of its own in Bryce Curnow and Ryan Gillingham.
Curnow won the Central Murray’s Jack Betts medal in the Covid-shortened 2021 season after being a star player for Strathfieldsaye in the Bendigo league with a best-on-ground display in the 2019 grand final win over Eaglehawk.
