AFL Victoria plans for football after Covid-19 restrictions announcement
AFL Victoria has released a statement following the Victorian Government’s announcement on coronavirus restrictions for Greater Melbourne.
AFL Victoria says it is planning for this weekend’s community matches to be able to go ahead following the State Government’s latest announcement on coronavirus restrictions.
The restrictions, which come into force across Greater Melbourne at 6pm tonight, mean indoor private gatherings have been limited to five people, while public gatherings are limited to 30 people. Face masks must also be worn indoors unless an exemption applies.
“AFL Victoria will continue to work closely with the Victorian Government. At this stage we’re proceeding as though community football training and matches can take place this week as scheduled,” the football body said in a statement.
“We will be guided by advice from the government and health authorities, and update stakeholders with any new information if and when it becomes available.”
While the new restrictions do not directly impact regional Victoria, anyone from metropolitan Melbourne who travels into regional Victoria must continue to abide by Melbourne’s restrictions.
“For example, if you visit someone outside metropolitan Melbourne, they must have not more than five visitors at that house in that day,” Health Minister Martin Foley said.
Several country football leagues have some or all clubs within the metropolitan area.
