AFL Draft 2022: Jaxon Binns gets 39 possessions for Vic Country

Vic Country has won its second successive match of the under-18s national championships with Jaxon Binns and Cooper Vickery on fire.

Vic Country has won its second successive match of the under-18s national championships with Berwick’s Jaxon Binns putting together one of the best individual performances of the series to date.

Binns finished a standout performance with 39 possessions from a wing in the 33-point win against the Allies at the Gabba.

Coach Paul Corrigan was pleased with the end result despite not producing a four-quarter performance with the team losing East Point’s Felix Fogarty to an ankle injury during the game.

Fogarty is rated as an outside chance to play against Western Australia in Geelong on Sunday, July 17.

But Kyneton’s Jack O’Sullivan is only “touch and go” to be back for games against Vic Metro in September with a serious collarbone injury from the first game against South Australia.

Corrigan was impressed with Binns’ output against the Allies, who are yet to record a win from its three matches of the series so far.

“His work rate and how he can run up and down the ground was really instrumental in us winning,” he said.

“The 39 possessions he had just shows that immense workrate he does have.”

Vic Country’s midfield unit was again on top with Jhye Clark, Henry Hustwaite and Mitch Szybkowski all having high 20s disposal counts.

Bairnsdale’s Cooper Vickery came under notice again after playing on some of South Australia’s tall forwards a week earlier.

“He does the simplest things brilliantly,” Corrigan said.

“He defends really hard, his one percenters and chase-down tackles are great, but with ball in hand he is also really neat.”

Drouin’s Jacob Konstanty came in for his first match and kicked three goals as a small forward with key forward Aaron Cadman booting 2.3.
