Two SA farms split between eight buyers
Two tightly held South Australian farms have been sold to multiple local buyers after a series of multimillion dollar deals.
Two South Australian farms have been carved up between eight separate buyers in a series of multimillion dollar deals in the state.
In the highly regarded South East region near Naracoorte, the Porter family have sold their 1654-hectare Childerley Park property, after third and fourth generation custodians opted to sell the property last year.
It is understood the property has been divided up and sold among three separate private entities, with multiple neighbours or nearby existing landholders securing a slice of the tightly held farm.
Listed for sale in October last year the property was expected to be worth in the vicinity of $23 million as a whole, alongside significant underground water entitlements.
The value of the three transactions remains undisclosed.
Childerley Park was regarded as a mixed farming operation with a long history as a grazing enterprise for both sheep and cattle. It was rated to a current stocking rate of 12.4 dry sheep equivalent per hectare.
The property also supported cereal, beans and canola production, while several paddocks were secured to grow hay.
A five-bedroom stone homestead and renovated three-bedroom cottage are also part of the offering.
It is understood Childerley Park’s plains country was purchased by a party heavily into cropping and hay production who will look to continue this enterprise on their purchased portion.
The range country of the property was purchased by sheep and cattle breeders who plan to expand their operations onto this land.
TDC Real Estate agents Tom Pearce and Mark De Garis handled the sale of Childerley Park.
Established by pastoralist and stockbroker Frederick Porter, the property had been run by several generations of the porter family, including former federal Liberal MP James Porter.
Meanwhile, in the state’s Mid North region, 469 hectares of cropping farmland has been sold through auction to five separate buyers in deals totalling more than $10 million combined.
The Parker family’s tightly held portfolio of properties at Macaw Creek Rd, Riverton, about 100km north of Adelaide, were offered for sale through auction earlier this month.
Comprising the 96.12-hectare Lot 1, 82.46-hectare Lot 2, 44.95-hectare Lot 3, 103.5-hectare Lot 4 and 142-hectare Lot 5, lots 1, 3 and 5 were sold under the hammer while lots 2 and 4 were sold-post auction.
In total the five properties were sold for a total of $10.445 million, equating to an average of $22,270 a hectare.
Nutrien Harcourts Riverton agents Jane Parkinson and Naya Fisher handled the sales.
The pair of notable SA farms sales come after the 1870-hectare beef, prime lamb and wool farm Crower and Fellwood were sold by the Giles family to Ian and Louise Johnson for $28 million.
