Natural capital, investments and innovation

Two separate farms located in the NSW Riverina have hit the market where it is expected they will field offers north of $30 million combined.

The Thompson family are selling their 10,293ha Booroorban aggregation after first acquiring part of the property 17 years ago.

Offers for the farms are expected to reach $1606-$1729 a hectare ($600-$700 an acre) for a total of $16.5-$17.7 million.

In 2005 the Thompson family purchased the 3501ha Cooneen farm then acquired the 3554ha Oaklands and 3237ha Park Estate lots in 2007.

The Thompson family are Melbourne-based business people who have employed a manager to run the day-to-day activities on the properties.

Elders Real Estate Deniliquin selling agent Matt Horne said the Booroorban aggregation was a renowned pastoral holding in the NSW Riverina.

“The aggregation has been carefully developed into a prime breeding and wool growing property with the addition of irrigation to finish young stock on improved pastures and forage crops,” he said.

Located 50km south of Hay and 75km north of Deniliquin, at 931 Booroorban Tchelery Rd, Booroorban has a production history of breeding and fattening livestock, wool and fodder production, summer and winter cropping.

The Booroorban aggregation consists of the Cooneen (3501ha), Oaklands (3554ha) and Park Estate (3237ha) farms.

As a whole, the aggregation has carried between 6000 and 7000 Merino ewes, and 150 to 200 cows plus replacements.

There are 194ML Class G Water Entitlements and 3180ML Class F CICL Water Entitlements included in the sale.

516ML of Murrumbidgee Ground Water Entitlements will be made available to the successful purchasers at a pre-auction determined price.

Meanwhile, 1.5 hours’ drive south of the Booroorban aggregation, the 2370ha Marong farm near Deniliquin has also hit the market.

A northern NSW livestock farming family is selling the mixed farming property after buying it seven years ago.

Offers of $14 million-plus are expected for Marong, which has the capacity for grain, beef and sheep production.
