After more than five generations in the one family, a Queensland cattle station has been sold for a price understood to be a district record.

The Pedersen family has sold its 2586ha Ranchlands property, located near Injune and 105km north of Roma, through auction for $18 million.

Injune cattleman Shane Mills of Mills Cattle Co, which neighbours Ranchlands, purchased the property with a winning bid of $6960.55 per hectare.

Resolute Property’s Grant Veivers and Ben Forrest handled the sale which had 12 registered bidders on the day.

Mr Forrest said demand for cattle country in Queensland was strong for blue ribbon stations.

“It was pretty well a district record for that area,” he said.

“The demand is there for A-grade properties and that was certainly the feeling on the day.”

Marketed as open, cleared and developed buffel grass country, Ranchlands is held in six titles, can carry about 1000 backgrounders and is suitable for cattle backgrounding or breeding.

Meanwhile, about 700km north of Ranchlands, the renowned Gear family is selling Slogan Downs, a 15,604ha cattle station located 80km south of Charters Towers.

The property is scheduled to be auctioned on May 11 on a walk-in walk-out basis which includes about 2000 EU-accredited Santa cattle.

The Gear family have estimated the property can carry between 2800 and 3000 adult equivalents

It is expected the property could fetch offers worth $8000 to $12,000 per beast area.

Nutrien Harcourts Qld selling agent David Woodhouse said Slogan Downs was suitable as a stand-alone property or could be integrated into a larger operation.

“Slogan Downs is one of the most developed cattle stations within the Dalrymple Shire,” he said.

“It has been the beneficiary of millions of dollars investment into strategic development of land, pasture, fencing, water, yards, and buildings during the last five years.”

Earlier this year, Mathew’s Farm Investment Pty Ltd, formerly China State Farms Pty Ltd, sold its 30,757ha Queensland cattle station to Augathella-based Brangus breeders Adrian and Megan Forrest through auction for $27 million.
