A slice of rural Victorian history has been sold with Peter and Pam Habersberger offloading their South West Victorian farming estate, Dalvui Homestead, to an interstate buyer.

After 26 years of ownership, Mr Habersberger, a Melbourne cardiologist, and his wife, have sold the 227ha Dalvui Homestead to a non-Victorian family with existing agricultural interests.

The interstate buyer will become just the fifth owners of the historic property.

The holding has been sold for an undisclosed price due to confidentiality arrangements with settlement due in 2023.

No price expectations for Dalvui were published when it was listed for sale in October, with agents citing its uniqueness.

Elders Real Estate Camperdown selling agent Rob Rickard handled the sale and said there was enormous interest in Dalvui.

“It was regarded as one of the outstanding, historic rural homesteads in Victoria,” Mr Rickard said.

Dalvui has been held by just four families since 1839.

“There was an enormous level of interest in the six-week campaign.

“Interest came from private wealth out of capital cities and also from strong and established families statewide and from interstate.

“I have had the pleasure of selling some historic rural properties throughout my 30 years in the industry and this was undoubtedly one of the more spectacular ones.”

Located 10 minutes from Terang and 15 minutes from Camperdown in the heart of Victoria’s South West, Dalvui has ties to Victorian farming dating back almost 200 years.

The original 17,612ha property was subdivided over the years after Scottish pastoralist Niel Black started running stock on the property in 1839.

It was also one of the first recorded sites where Romney sheep were imported into Australia, making their way to Dalvui in 1872.

Dalvui was constructed in about 1907 and has 10 bedrooms.

The 1907 Federation-Queen Anne style homestead is surrounded by a garden designed by William Guilfoyle in 1898.

Across the 227ha there are four titles of undulating country subdivided into 28 main paddocks.

An underground water supply including 247.5ML groundwater irrigation licence also came with the property.

Earlier this year the 68ha, circa 1889 Yuulong Estate, nestled in the foothills of Mt Buninyong, 17km south of Ballarat, was sold after a month on the market to a local buyer in a deal worth more than $5 million.
