IT WILL be a case of old meets new when Holbrook district property Stonehaven is auctioned next month.

The property has been held by the Ross family for more than 100 years but it will be sold using one of the newest sale methods.

Stonehaven will be sold online, meaning buyers can be sitting in an airport lounge in Hong Kong, their office in the US, or their living room in the UK when they bid.

They could also be just down the road.

Chris Meares, from Meares and Associates at Edgecliff, NSW, said it was a sensible and logical way to offer a property of this calibre.

“This is one of the best rural investment areas in eastern Australia,” he said.

“Stonehaven has been used recently for both cash cropping and cattle.

“Given it is west of the Hume Highway, the climate is slightly warmer, allowing the cropping option.

“It has the rainfall, the soils and the climate, as well as the size to make it one of the gems of the district.”

The 2630ha farm is 15km north of Holbrook, and 75km from the major regional centres of Albury and Wagga Wagga. It is almost halfway between Sydney and Melbourne.

Stonehaven was originally part of the 36,600ha Kinross Station.

It has been judged to have the ability to carry 20,000 DSE as well as run a cropping program.

Rainfall is about 600mm and stock water is supplied from three bores, 20 troughs, 32 dams, some of which are spring fed, and double frontage to Sayers Creek.

Soil types are described as a mix of granite and shale, and Chris said the property was “beautifully balanced” with sheltered valleys and low hills.

Improvements include a renovated six-bedroom 1920s homestead, a seven-stand shearing shed, near new cattle yards, and farm shedding.

“The sale of Stonehaven gives the shrewd investor a wonderful opportunity to purchase one of the last remaining large quality holdings of the eastern Riverina,” Chris said.

He confirmed there had been international interest.
