Mixed farming property Airlie at Thoona listed for sale

A tightly-held family owned farm near Wangaratta has been listed for sale with a multi-million dollar asking price.

Airlie at Thoona has been owned by the same family since 1930.

A tightly-held mixed farming property in Victoria’s North East has been listed for sale and could fetch more than $28 million.

The 1935ha property, Airlie at Thoona, has been owned by the Sinclair family since 1930 and will be sold via expressions of interest.

Its asking price is $13,590 – $14,826 per ha – which could equate to as much as $28.6 million.

Selling agent Dave Colvin from Elders said the preference was to sell Airlie as a whole, but vendors Murray and Mel Sinclair would consider offers for the three sections, known as Airlie (774ha), Avalon (405ha) and Lenid (756ha).

Mr Colvin said the Sinclairs’ decision to sell was brought on by the fact that their four school-age children would shortly need to make their own career decisions.

The Sinclairs are currently running 450 breeding cows and calves, plus 100 heifers, and trading in either Hereford or Angus steers.

Substantial farm infrastructure on the property includes three large machinery sheds, a large hayshed with adjoining chemical store, two workshops, seven sets of stockyards and a maximum on-farm grain storage capacity of 2300 tonnes.

Expressions of interest for Airlie will close on October 29.

It comes as Glenburn Station in the Yarra Valley was listed for sale for the second time in four years.

The 305ha landmark cattle farming property has an asking price of $9 million – $3 million more than its most recent price tag.

Property records show Glenburn Station sold in September 2018 after it was listed for sale in November 2017, with an asking price of $5.5 – $6 million.
