Mingay, Nagambie, Condah: Three Vic family farms to fetch $25m-plus combined
Three separate Victorian family farms have hit the market where they could fetch offers worth $25m-plus combined. See the details.
Two mixed farming operations and a southwest Victorian dairy have hit the market where they could fetch offers worth $25m-plus combined.
Firstly, three farms spanning more than 850ha in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley have been listed for sale.
Owner of the properties David Ingpen said he bought the first portion of Brooks Aggregation about five years ago, taking a leasing opportunity to the next level.
“I was leasing the Brooks block and the opportunity came up for me to buy it,” Mr Ingpen said.
“I had owned it for about a year and then about 900 acres (364ha) came up for sale and then so did another 650 acres (263ha).
“The three blocks were all pretty run down and so I have spent the past five years transforming them.”
Mr Ingpen and his wife, Paula, own and farm about 1215ha of livestock country near Bonnie Doon, but he said he wanted to commit to some cropping at his new farms, situated about 16km east of Nagambie.
The aggregation is expected to field offers worth $8648-$9389 a hectare via expressions of interest closing October 25.
The aggregation comprises the 219ha Brooks parcel, 264ha Frankies and 372ha Akers Rd.
Meanwhile, in the Western District, the Jewell family is selling its 820ha mixed farming block located at Mingay, in a highly-sought after location south of Skipton and north of both Derrinallum and Lismore.
Four years ago the Jewell family went searching for further property in safe rainfall country, seeking farmland that would support them after several years of drought conditions north of the Murray River. Following their inquiries the family bought Selkirk Rises, located more than 400km southwest of their home farming properties near Finley and Berrigan in the southern NSW Riverina.
In recent seasons the Jewell family has run a livestock breeding and fattening program, particularly for sheep but also cattle.
Currently about 100ha at Selkirk Rises grows canola following the Jewell family’s development of raised-bed crops.
Offers of $10,000 a hectare are expected for the property via an expressions of interest campaign closing October 30.
Further west of Selkirk Rises, career dairy farmer Ian Johnstone and his partner Simone are selling their 253ha 350-cow dairy at southwest Victorian farm known as Simstone, located at Condah, 23km north of Heywood.
“We still love dairy farming, but we sat down and had a chat and decided we want to leave while we still love it,” Mr Johnstone said.
Simstone is expected to receive offers worth $25,000 a hectare via expressions of interest which are closing October 30.
