A landmark station on the famed NSW Liverpool Plains has been snapped up after almost 60 years in the hands of one family.
The 4743ha mixed-farming and grazing property, Millers Creek Station, located south of Gunnedah near Willow Tree, has been sold after hitting the market last year with $25m-plus price hopes.
Josie Walton and her two daughters Zara Holmes a Court and Alice Strang listed the station for sale after Ms Walton’s late husband Harry Evans purchased the property in 1966.
It is understood Millers Creek Station has been sold to a private Sydney-based buyer with farming interests in the region. The value of the deal remains undisclosed.
Inglis Property chief executive Sam Triggs handled the sale but was unable to comment on the transaction.
“The combination of scale, strong soils, excellent rainfall, and location ensure that Millers Creek Station is one of the pick mixed farming operations in the Liverpool Range district which will satisfy the most astute investor,” Mr Triggs said when listing the property for sale last year.
“Landmark holdings such as Millers Creek Station, with history, profitability and the opportunity to own the entire valley are rarely offered to market.”
In recent seasons the property has carried an estimated 1200 cows and followers or about 25,000 dry sheep equivalent. Under previous management, it has supported 1050 joined cows, 184 joined heifers along with 240 weaner heifers.
More than 200ha have been cropped or sown to lucerne via a winter cereal and oilseed (canola) crop rotation. An additional 200ha are considered arable and suitable for annual cropping.
The centrepiece of the property is the fully renovated six-bedroom homestead with wraparound verandas, established gardens, an in-ground swimming pool, meat shed and a walk-in coolroom.
Farm infrastructure includes a 10-stand shearing shed, sheep yards, cattle yards, station office and shedding. Additional accommodation includes a four-bedroom manager’s house and four cottages.
