'Three key factors': Agriculture businesses making bumper profits

Two NSW farms have been sold with local buyers paying top-dollar prices to secure the holdings.

A near-record price has been paid for a family farm at Holbrook in Southern NSW.

Overtoun farm, located at 312 Mirrabooka Road, Holbrook, was sold through an auction for $25,000 per hectare.

Situated in the tightly-held and highly sought after Holbrook district, the 172ha farm was sold for a successful bid of $4.3m.

Nutrien Harcourts Holbrook selling agent Matthew Pitzen said the farm was sold for one of the highest prices per hectare he had seen in the region.

A local buyer with existing farming interests in the region snapped up the property with the massive bid.

Mark Baker and his partner Mike Todd have used Overtoun and a property over the road to run their livestock operation.

During their 15 year tenure, the partners have used the heavy carrying grazing country to expand their Kanimbla Hereford stud.

While Mr Baker will be farewelling the Holbrook district, the Kanimbla stud will

still run on land across the road from Overtoun, which is now owned and operated by James and Belinda McWilliam.

Meanwhile, in NSW’s central west, a 850ha cropping and livestock property has been sold for an undisclosed figure.

Fedora, at 1081 Robertson Road, Peak Hill, located 50km south of Dubbo, sold prior to auction this month.

Recent nearby sales have yielded a return of about $5000 a hectare, but it is understood the farm sold in excess of this mark.

Elders Real Estate Forbes and Parkes rural property specialist Ian Simpson said there was strong interest in the property with many potential buyers looking to secure the farm to add to their existing holdings

Mr Simpson said the turnkey farm was a key point of interest for local and domestic potential buyers.

Last month the family farm Lockdale at Narromine was sold for almost $10m to a South Australian buyer, and last week a Wimmera farm broke records with one buyer paying $35,000 per hectare.
